Training program of Clinic Medicine (5+3 integration)

Clinic Medicine (5+3 integration) is a new specialty after modulation for 7-year Clinic Medicine. According to the corresponding regulations of Ministry of Education, the students in this specialty complete 5-year undergraduate school education and match the graduation requirements, then directly enroll in the 3-year Clinic Medicine postgraduate training of professional Master degree which is the smooth cohesion of resident standardization training, thus the 2-stage education, the undergraduate school training and postgraduate training, are integrated as a whole, and the relationship between school education and after-graduation education are rationalized.

The education for students in this specialty is divided into undergraduate and postgraduate stages. In the undergraduate stage, the students are educated based on training program of common 5-year Clinic Medicine students, gain the certificate of graduation and Bachelor degree if they pass all the examinations, and enroll directly in the 3-year Clinic Medicine postgraduate training. In the postgraduate stage, the students are educated based on the postgraduate training of Clinic Medicine Master degree and the resident standardization training, if they qualify all the examinations and dissertation defense, the certificate of graduation, Master degree, Medical Licensing (medical practitioner) and resident standardization training, once 4 certificates, are endowed.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

This specialty integrates medical undergraduate education, professional degree postgraduate education and resident standardization training. The goal of this specialty: the comprehensive development of students in moral qualities, intellectual ability, physical fitness and aesthetic appreciation; the students can master the basic theories, basic knowledge and basic skills of biomedicine and clinical medicine; have proficiency in clinical diagnosis and treatment, strong clinical research ability and lifelong learning ability; The students will be independent in medical career, undertake the standardized treatments of clinic common and frequent occurring diseases, and achieve the "resident physician" of the master degree in clinical medicine.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

A. The ideological and moral education and professional quality

1. Follow the law and discipline. Establish the proper life value system and views of world, possess the spirit of socialism patriotism, collectivism and humanism, love mother country, faithful to people and willing to struggle for national health career and physical and mental health of human beings for whole life.

2. Establish the concept of lifelong study. Recognize the importance of continuous self-improvement. Own the spirit of scientific altitude, innovation and analysis and criticism. and pursuit excellence all the time.

3. Cherish lives and care patients. Take the disease precaution and disease healing as life-long responsibility, the palliative care as moral responsibility, and maintain of people health as professional responsibility.

4. Pay attention to medical ethic in professional career, show respect to patients’ privacy, personality and belief. Understand patients' cultural values and background, and perform the obligation of medical ethics protection. When different medical technologies are carried on for accurate diagnosis or for changes of disease progress, both the benefits of patients' and their family members and the benefits of the health resources should be considered.

5. Establish the concept of legal medicine practice. Learn how to protect the benefits of doctors and patients on both sides.

6 Be honest in clinic treatments, and own the concept of team-work and corporation in health services.

B. The professional knowledge

1Master the medicine-related knowledge, such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Behavioral Science, Social Science and technology and use them to guide medical study and practice in the future. .

2Master the normal structures, functions and psychological state of human body in different developmental stages.

3. Master the principles of common and frequently-occurring diseases. Beware of the influences of factors of society and of behavior mentality on disease, and know the importance of precaution of diseases.

4. Master the principles of pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, prevention and treatments of common and frequently-occurring diseases.

5. Master the knowledge of Pharmacology and the principles of rational administration of drugs in clinic.

6. Master the principles of health care of pregnancy, parturition, obstetrics emergency and before and after delivery, and medical knowledge of family planning.

7. Master basic knowledge of general family medicineprinciples of health care education, disease precaution and screening. Master the knowledge of relief and improvement of illness, recovery of disability and hospice care.

8. Master the knowledge and methods of clinical epidemiology, and understand the importance of scientific research for medicine.

9. Master the basic characteristics of Chinese Traditional Medicine (Ethnomedicine), and familiar with their basic diagnosis principles.

10. Master the basic rules of formation, development and transmission of communicable disease, and master the prevention and therapeutic principles of common communicable diseases.

C. The technical ability

1. Possess the ability of medical diagnosis and clinic treatment, which include thoroughly, systematically and correctly collect the patients’ medical history.

2. Own the ability of systematical and proper physical and psychiatric examination, and formally compose the medical record.

3. Own the ability of clinic thinking and expression.

4. Have the ability of diagnosis and treatment of common and recurring disease of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Pediatrics.

5. Have the ability of diagnosis and first-aid treatment of emergency cases.

6. Have the ability of choice of most suitable clinic technology, and choose the best, cheapest diagnosis and treatments.

7. Possess the basic knowledge and ability of investigation and proof of Evidence-based Medicine to solve clinic problems.

8. Possess the ability of community health service.

9. Possess the ability of Patient-Doctor communication, and can effectively communicate with patients.

10. Possess the ability of communication with other doctors, nurses and peers.

11. For particular clinic cases, possess the ability of information processing, and have the ability to independently solve medical questions and gain new information via library references and modern information technology. Be able to read references in foreign language.

12. Possess the basic ability of community health service and propaganda education for patients and public about healthy life pattern and illness prevention.

13. Have the ability of self and lifelong study.

D The health and social responsibility

1. Have the sense of responsibility to protect and promote the health of individuals and people.

2. Have the ability to understand the factors that affect people's health, disease and treatment which include health inequities and inequalities, diversity of cultural, spiritual and social values, as well as socio-economic, psychological and natural environmental factors.

3. Possess the ability to communicate effectively in different roles, such as health education.

4. Possess the ability to interpret and assess health checks and preventive measures for the crowds, which include monitoring of the health status of the population, patient follow-up, medication, rehabilitation and other guidance.

5. Be able to understand the hospital's medical quality assurance and medical safety management system, clarify their professional ability and authority, pay attention to patient safety, and identify risk factors that are unfavorable to patients in a timely manner.

6. Understand the composition and function of the health care system, as well as the functions and relationships of different departments, and understand the principles of rational allocation of limited resources to meet the health needs of individuals, groups and countries.

7. Understand global health issues and the determinants of health and disease.

YEARS OF STUDY, DEGREEGRANTING ANDGRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

8 years with a Bachelor’s degree and professional Master's degree in Clinic Medicine.

Minimum credit requirements: 220 credits for in-class learning, and 8 credits for extracurricular activities. The students are required to complete the military training, pass the national CET-4 exam, and meet the National Standard for College Students’ Physique Health before graduation. Only after graduation, the students are allowed to be enrolled in the 3-year Clinic Medicine postgraduate training of professional Master degree.

BASIC COURSES FOR THE PRIMARY DISCIPLINE

Cell Biology, Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Human Parasitology, Pathology, Pathophysiology Medical Genetics, Pharmacology, Public Health,, etc.

CORE COURSES

Diagnostics, Medical Imaging, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Lemology, etc.

PRACTICE TRAINING

Practice training mainly includes: Military training ,Professional skill training (including Clinical department internship), early contact of clinic, ability of research and methods, community health care practice and, exchanges and practice overseas, etc. See details in course selection requirements.

COURSE SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

1. The explanations of arrangement of teaching block

The teaching block include: General courses, platform courses and specialized courses. General courses includes public courses 24 credits (ideological and political theories 13 credits, military courses 1 credit, College English 8 credits, Physical training 2 credits), general core courses 6 credits and general optional courses 6 credits. The compulsory and optional courses are applied in platform courses and specialized courses according to the professional characteristics.

2. The course selection in different teaching blocks

The course selection requirements follow the regulations of Univ. Dean's office. Besides 3 core courses are not allowed to select, the Medical students are required to study 6 credit optional courses in 5 teaching blocks (no repetition in same block):. "Scientific Exploration and Technological Innovation", "Life Care and Social Cognition", "Literature and Art", "China and the World", "Philosophy Wisdom and Reasoning Analysis"

English teaching is classified, which includes 4 credit compulsory courses and 4 credit optional developmental courses. The students are required to participate the compulsory English-strengthening summer camp in short semester of the first year. The public English includes theory, practice and self-study, and students are required to undertake all the courses and match all the corresponding teaching requirements to acquire the credits. The course Public Specking should be selected after the course Debate in English.

The physical Education is compulsory course in 1-4 semester, no credit for this course in 5-8 semester in which it is limited selection in 5 and 6 semester and optional selection in 7 and 8 semester.

The optional courses in platform and specialized courses are the minimum requirements, the students may select more.

Students can choose their supervisor ahead of time. at the end of the third year, and use the weekend to complete some of the postgraduate courses in clinical medicine at the end of the fifth year.

The specialized courses focus on integrated curriculum, new teaching methods and evaluation ways, to embody the culture the ability of clinic problem solution and position competence. The Patient-Doctor communication skills, clinical thinking and Medical Information, etc , are added in Integrated Diagnosis and Surgery (General). The teaching contents in Medicine and Surgery are arranged in blocks, which changes the traditional subject-centered teaching ways into new disease-centered teaching way, to facilitate the culture the clinical thinking and embody the linkage and continuity of disease treatments. The PBL and CBL teaching methods, flipped class, MOOC, advanced simulation teaching are introduced in specialized courses to enhance the ability of self-study and clinic comprehensive skills.

3. The explanations and requirements of concentrated practice

1The practice is emphasized, and basic skills are cultured in whole teaching processes. The practice of Biomedicine skill trainings are arranged in Biomedicine courses, the clinic basic skill trainings and probation teaching are arranged in course teaching processes and in short semester. The clinic rotation practice which include individual probation occupies 50 weeks (include 2-week pre-probation education and concentrated on-spot training) and is arranged in 8-10 semester.

2The quality and ability education is emphasized. The practice in short term is enriched by continuous arranged, which includes that the military training is arranged after the students are enrolled; the compulsory English and computer ability training is arranged in short term of first semester via summer camp; the PBL training camp (training of emphasized and induced discussion and ability of self-study) is arranged in short term of second semester; the preventive medicine practice is arranged in short term and summer holiday every year; and the concentrated training of clinic skills is arranged in short term of fourth semester, and students cannot enroll in clinic rotation practice if fail to pass. The summer practice embodies the idea of "early practice, early clinic and early community". The early clinic activity (2 weeks) is arranged in summer holiday of second year, the community practice (1 week) is arranged in summer holiday of third year. The basic, bridge and clinic coursed are integrated to increase the study interest, enhance the professional quality and strengthen the study ability.

3The ability of research and method training are arranged in the beginning of second year and cover the whole medical education. These training include three innovation education program, open experiment program and training of scientific research methods.

4The students are encouraged to participate in practice of short-term exchanges and communication overseas via summer camp, etc.

4.The requirement of extra curriculum 8 credits follows the regulation of Univ. students' affairs office.
