Training program of Clinic Medicine (5 years)

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The goal of this specialty is to cultivate the advanced medical talents who develop themselves in an all-around way of morality, intelligence, physique and art; master the theories, knowledge and techniques of biological and clinic medicine; possess the initial ability of diagnosis and treatment of clinic disease, clinic research and lifelong learning. The graduates will be advanced medical experts (doctor-to-be) who will be able to engage in clinic treatments, prevention, medical research in the medical and health field.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

1.The requirements of morality and professional quality:

1) Regard the health and welfare of the people as their own responsibility, possess humanitarian spirit and establish the ideal and faith of striving for human physical and mental health.

2) To establish the concept of patient interests above everything else and make rational use of medical and health resources and give full play to the benefits of available health resources.

3) Attach great importance to medical ethics, and respect the privacy and personality of patients.

4) Possess analytical and critical spirit, foster the scientific attitude of “seeking truth from facts”, and master the correct way to solve the problems.

5) To build the idea of lifelong learning, have innovative consciousness and constantly strive for excellence.

6) To establish the concept of practicing medicine according to law, and protect the rights of patients and their own.

7) Possess excellent skills of interpersonal communication and team work, and properly handle doctor-patient, doctor-nurse and medicine-society relationships.

2.The requirements of Knowledge objects:

1) Master basic knowledge and scientific methods related to medicine in natural, behavioral, humanities and social sciences.

2) Master the normal human structure, corresponding function and mentality at various stages.

3) Master basic knowledge of general medicine, grasp the principle of health education, disease prevention and screening, and understand methods and knowledge of clinical epidemiology.

4) Master the cause, pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, diagnosis and management principle of common and frequently-occurring diseases.

5) Master the etiology, development, transmission law of infectious diseases, and understand the management principle of common ones.

6) Grasp general characteristics of Chinese traditional medicine, and understand the principle of dialectical treatment.

3.The requirements of practical skills:

1) Possess the abilities of gathering medical history and performing standard physical and mental examination.

2) Possess the basic techniques of diagnosis and treatment of common and frequently-occurring diseases.

3) Possess the strong abilities of clinical thinking, and be capable of classifying and identifying the causes and pathogenesis of human diseases.

4) Possess the ability to deal with urgent, difficult and severe cases.

5) Master the basic experimental techniques and scientific research methods of biomedicine, and have a preliminary research capability.

6) Follow the principle of evidence-based medicine in medical practice, improve the diagnosis and treatment methods, and possess the ability to choose and determine appropriate treatment scheme.

7) Possess the stronger interpersonal communication and presentation abilities, establish a harmonious doctor-patient relationship, and raise the public and patient’s awareness on health availably.

8) Have a proficiency in English, both fluent communication and application.

9) Operate the computer skillfully, and obtain medical information via modern techniques for medical practice.

10) Possess the independent learning and lifelong learning abilities.

4. Health and social responsibility requirements:

1) Have a sense of responsibility to protect and promote the health of individuals and people.

2) Possess the ability to understand the factors that affect people's health, disease and effective treatment, including related issues of health inequities and inequalities, diversity of cultural, spiritual and social values, and socio-economic, psychological and natural environmental factors.

3) Possess the ability to communicate effectively with different roles such as healthy education.

4) To explain and assess the health examination and preventive measures of the population, including monitoring of the health status of the population, patient follow-up, medication, rehabilitation and other aspects of guidance.

5) Possess the ability to understand the medical quality assurance and medical safety management system of the hospital, clarify my own business ability and authority, attach importance to patient safety, and timely identify the risk factors that are adversed to patients.

6) Possess the ability to understand the structure and function of China's medical and health system, as well as the functions and interrelationships of each component departments, and understand the principle of rational allocation of limited resources to meet the health needs of individuals, groups and countries.

7) Possess the ability to understand global health issues and the determinants of health and disease.

PRIMARY AND RELATED DISCIPLINES

Primary discipline: Biomedicine; Basic Medicine; Clinical Medicine

YEARS OF STUDY, DEGREE GRANTING AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

5 years with a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine.

Minimum credit requirements: 220 credits for in-class learning, and 8 credits for extracurricular activities.

In addition, the students are required to complete the military training, and meet the National Standard for College Students’ Physique Health before graduation.

BASIC COURSES FOR THE PROFESSIONAL PLATFORM

Cell Biology, Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Medical Genetics, Pharmacology, Public Health, etc.

PROFESSIONAL CORE COURSES

Diagnostics, Medical Imaging, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and lemology,etc.

PRACTICE TRAINING

Practice Training contains: Military Training, Clinic Basic Skill Training during the whole process (including General Clinic Practice), Early Exposure to Clinic, Early Community Practice, Early Research and research Training. The specific requirements are shown as follows.

COURSE SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

1. The explanations of curriculum modules

Course teaching includes General Education Course, Major Platform Course and Professional Course.

The module of General Education Course contains: Public Course, 24 credits (Ideological and Political Course, 13 credits; Military Theory, 1 credit; College English, 8 credits; Physical Education, 2 credits); General Core Course, 6 credits; General Optional Course, 6 credits.

Corresponding Compulsory Course and Optional Course are set up in Major Platform Course and Professional Course by reference to their professional features.

2. Course requirements of each module

Basic general core and optional course require medical students according to the personal interest in “scientific exploration and technological innovation”, “life care and social cognition”, “literature and art”, “China and the world “and “philosophical wisdom and reason analysis” at least take three courses of above five, each with 6 credits

Classified teaching is performed in College English, which includes English Compulsory Course (4 credits) and Expand Optional Course (4 credits). The students must enter Intensive English Summer Camp in short semester of the first academia year, which is a compulsory section. Public English Course consists of theory, practice and independent learning, and the students need to choose and complete all sections in accordance with the teaching requirements to obtain corresponding credits. They should do Public Elocution lesson before taking English Debate.

Physical Education is compulsory in 1-4th semester, but no credits in 5-8th, among which it is arranged as limited optional course in 5th and 6th semester, and free electives in 7th and 8th semester.

Major Platform Course and Professional Course is required for minimum credits, so can be selected multiple by the students.

Professional Course Teaching emphasizes the integration of curriculum, new-style teaching method and examination system, and it focuses on the developments of clinical problem-solving ability and Post competency. Integrate the contents of Diagnostics and Surgery, and increase the training of communication skill of doctor-patient, clinical thinking and the medical information. Parallel connect with Medicine and Surgery, arrange teaching contents in accordance with system module, and change the “Subject Centered” traditional curriculum mode into the “Disease Centered” new-style one, which assists in enhancing clinical thinking and reflects the association and coherence of the training of disease handling capacity. PBL+CBL approach, Flipped Classroom, MOOC and Advanced Simulative Teaching are introduced to professional course teaching, which enhances the training of independent learning and clinic integrated abilities.

3. The requirements of practice

1) Pay attention to the training of practice section, and the basic skill training is arranged throughout professional education: Performing biomedical basic experimental skill training in biomedical teaching. The trainings of basic clinic medical skill and clinic probation are arranged intensively in short semester and the whole process of teaching. General Clinic Practice is 50 weeks, which include 2 weeks of pre-practice education and centralized training. It is arranged in 9th-10th semester, and increases individualized optional practice.

2) To emphasize all-round development, enrich practice education in short semester and reflect the close connection and the teaching idea of “Early practice, Early clinic, Early community”. Describe in details as follows: Military Training is arranged after the enrollment; English and Computer Skill are trained at Intensive English Summer Camp in short semester of the first academia year, which is a compulsory section; The activity of community medical practice is arranged the third academic year. Preventive medicine practice is performed in short semester of the third academic year and summer holiday; Clinic skill training and examination are arranged in short semester of the fourth academic year, and General practice goes on after passing the examination above. The activity of early contacting with clinic (2 weeks) are arranged in summer holiday of the second academic year, which combines basic course, bridge course and clinical course closely, arouses learning interest, improves professional quality and enhances learning ability.

3) Research ability and method trainings which include three innovation education project, open experiment project and research method training, etc. start in the second academic year, which reflects the idea of Early research throughout medical education. Including the education project of "triple innovation", the open laboratory project, the student scientific research method training, etc., the realization of scientific research concept throughout the whole process of medical education

4) To encourage students to participate in domestic and international short-term exchange activities focusing on “Camp”.

5) The professional students must pass the graduation exam before graduation.

EXTRACURRICULAR 8 CREDITS
