Training objectives

The aim of this program is to prepare outstanding medical students for being highly qualified professionals, who can conduct medical, teaching, research work and prevention and healthcare in stomatological or general hospital. The graduates will have integrated development in moral, mentality, physical and aesthetics; solid fundamentals knowledge and primary ability of diagnosis and treatment for the common and frequently-occurring disease in stomatology; generous knowledge of humanistic and social science; innovative spirit and social responsibility; ability for conducting clinical relevant research, tracking the frontier progress and international competitiveness,

Graduate Outcome

A.Morality and professionalism

At the end of education, graduates are able to:

1. Develop the correct view of life and values, possess the spirit of patriotism and humanismtake public health as their responsibility.

2. Conduct effective communications with patients, their family members. Understand patients’ questions, views, concerns and preferences, and ensure patients' full understanding of their situations and options. Involve patients in the decision-making and planning of their treatments.

3. Stick to the principle, establish the concept of cost-effectiveness, and maximize the benefits from available health resources.

4. Show respect for personal beliefs and Cultural background and value.

5. Possess the rigorous scientific attitude and analytical critical spirit.

6. Possess the strong ability of innovation and make contribution to the development of new knowledge and technology.

7. Demonstrate the spirit of team-work, and respect colleagues and other health care professionals. Seek help from other professionals when the incompetent situation occurs.

8. Recognize medical activities are under supervision of corresponding laws, and learn how to protect the benefits of both doctors and patients.

9. Have the benefits of patients and their family member in mind when using all the available technic to confirm the diagnosis and alter the progress of disease.

10. Demonstrate awareness of self-directed learning and lifelong learning. Recognize the importance of continuous self-improvement and demonstrate a commitment to excellence.


B. Science and Scholarship

At the end of education, graduates are able to:

1. Possess the fundamental pre-clinical knowledge pathogenesis of oral-maxillofacial diseases.

2. Possess the fundamental and general clinical knowledge of stomatology and clinical finding, pathogenesis and principle for diagnosis and treatment for common stomatological diseases, including endodontic disease, periodontal disease, oral mucosal disease, oral disease in children, dental defects, dental-maxillofacial deformity, tumor, trauma, infection and maxillofacial dysplasia.

3. Master the normal structures. functions and psychological state of human body at all stages of life. Understand the principles of etiology, pathogenesis, pathology, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, prevention and treatments of common and frequently-occurring diseases. Understand the influences of social, behavioural and psychological factors on the pathogenesis and development of disease, and the importance of diseases prevention.

4. Master the medicine-related disciplines, such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Behavioral Science, Social Science. Apply these knowledge to the further personal improvement.

5. Master the general knowledge of pharmacology and the principles of rational use of drugs in stamotology.

6. Realize the principle of health education, disease prevention and screening.


C. Clinical practice

At the end of education, graduates are able to:

1. Possess the ability of taking a medical history in a proper, comprehensive and systematic way.

2. Possess the ability of performing a full and accurate physical examination, selecting and performing common investigations and a range of common procedures safely, and making the primary judgements and decisions.

3. Possess the rigorous thinking method and clinical thinking, the ability of expression, apply knowledge of evidence-based medicine to investigate and solve the clinical problems. Master the principle of diagnosis and treatment for the common disease, including caries, pulposis, periapical disease, periodontitis, oral mucosal diseases, dental trauma, pericoronitis of wisdom teeth, osteomyeolitis, dentition defectthe indication and contraindication of exodontia, the age and sequence of replacement of primary teeth and the antidiastole of toothache.

4. Possess the ability for diagnosis of common and frequently-occurring diseases of oral medicine, surgery and pediatrics, diagnosis and primary treatment of general emergencies, and the general knowledge on the method and interpretations of the results from auxiliary examinations for common diseases. The interpretations of the results from auxiliary examinations include pulp vitality test, the X-ray and certain specific examinations. The general clinical skills include aseptic technique, cavity filling or pulp opening, scaling, conduction anesthesia and dental impression preparation, etc..

5. Communicate effectively with patients and their family members, colleagues and other health care professionals regarding ethical issues in medicine.

6. Select and perform a range of common procedures safely.

7. Have a good command of English and possess the ability for communication and application smoothly.

8. Possess the good computer ability including access to the medical updates for serving to the practice by modern technology.

9. Demonstrate awareness of self-directed learning and lifelong learning.
